Held Up in La Boca

from Mind The Noise by Craic Attics

/

about

Date Recorded: April 20, 2011
Order in which song was made for project: 13 of 42
Instruments Played: Baglama using a bow, Traversa

How they made it: This was the last of five songs produced on Michael’s birthday. As per their routine, Danny agreed before ending the night to “make a ‘Michael’ beat now.” So, Danny fished around the “Birthday Jam Sessions” Michael made earlier that day searching for the most foreign sound he could find: the Baglama.

This is the second time the Baglama is heard on the album, only this time it is used as a bowed instrument- like a Cello- which sounds as if the instrument is talking.

Origin of song title: The “talking” of the Baglama instrument can be interpreted in many ways, but to Michael it sounds like a person saying “Gimme that!” to which another person replies, “No, you can’t have it!” This led to the track being called "Held Up in La Boca," directly relating to an incident Michael ran into in La Boca in which he was held up at knifepoint.
