Maniacal

from Mind The Noise by Craic Attics

/

about

Date Recorded: September 4, 2011
Order in which song was made for project: 30 of 42
Instruments Played: Ehru, Bass

How they made it: On a night the duo made ten beats, Danny was throwing beats at Michael left and right. Danny likes to show Michael beats with a tabla in it, because he finds it humorous Michael wants to make songs out of them. When he played this particular beat, Michael picked up the Ehru, an instrument they hadn’t recorded yet and went in a trance slithering the bow back and forth on the 2-string instrument. There are two recording tracks of the Ehru on this song, although they both sound very similar. A few weeks later, they added the intense “speaker banging” drums towards the end to add to the insanity. The song is an attempt at a movie score in a scene where “shit goes down.”

Origin of song title: From the infamous September 4, 2011 session, Danny doesn't understand why this made the cut. The logic? "They all can't sound great," says Michael who insists an album about the mind can't be all pleasant sounds... "There's got to be there's 'maniacal' moments where the brain goes insane."
