Wolves in the Night (Pop, Pop)

from Mind The Noise by Craic Attics

/

about

Date Recorded: September 6, 2011
Order in which song was made for project: 40 of 42
Instruments Played: Baglama, Mohoceño, Erhu

How they made it: This is the first time on the album the baglama- referred to as the “Turkish Banjo” by Michael- is used and the only time where you hear it plucked (it doubles as a bowed instrument which is heard later). Instead of picking certain notes to play, Michael just tuned each string to his liking and played the instrument “open stringed.” They were attempting to make a “Shook Ones Pt. 2” type beat this way. The foundation sounded pretty good, but as per Michael policy, he wanted to throw “additional shit on top” as Danny would say. This would be the Erhu- a two-stringed bowed instrument Michael got for $10 on the street in Beijing- and the Mohoceño, a wind instrument which sounds like wolves howling when air is directed properly.

Origin of song title: The mention of wolves howling in the title refers to the sound the Mohoceño makes. "Pop, Pop" refers to the double snare hits found throughout the track and is a reference to Magnitude's character on Community, a favorite “pop” culture reference of Danny and Mike’s.
